Pope Leo XIV issues his first encylical, 'Magnifica humanitas'

Dear Faithful of the Diocese of Portland,

Our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, shared his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas. It certainly addresses a timely topic—that of Artificial Intelligence (AI)—but, more importantly, the timelessness of Church teaching on human dignity.

I echo the words of Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops: "It is a powerful reminder that no technology can replace a child of God, and all technology should be placed at the service of helping humanity thrive.”
