As Catholics, we believe death is not the end but merely the beginning of something much greater. As the words of the preface of the Mass of Christian Burial tell us: "For those who have been faithful, O Lord, life is not ended but merely changed."
That belief in the promise of the resurrection is celebrated at Maine Catholic Cemeteries. Catholic cemeteries are sacred places where the deceased are honored, respected, and prayed for each day. Being buried in a Catholic cemetery unites you with your Catholic family even after death.
Our Cemeteries
Within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, there are 83 Catholic cemeteries, including 11 diocesan-operated cemeteries. Calvary Cemetery in South Portland, Holy Cross Cemetery in Yarmouth, Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale, St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford, St. Joseph and St. Mary cemeteries in Biddeford, and St. Peter Cemetery in Lewiston; four parish cemeteries have recently been added as diocesan run: Mount Hope Cemetery in Lewiston, St. Anne Cemetery in Lisbon, and Mount Calvary and Ss. Cyril & Methodius cemeteries in Lisbon Falls.
