The Sacrament of Matrimony is a sacred covenant in which a man and a woman freely give themselves to one another and invite God to be at the center of their life together. In marriage, husband and wife are strengthened by grace to love faithfully, generously, and fruitfully.

Catholic marriage is more than a single day or ceremony. It is a lifelong vocation and a visible sign of Christ’s faithful love for the Church. The Church accompanies couples as they prepare for this sacrament and continues to support them as they build a life rooted in faith, prayer, service, and love.

If you are hoping to be married in the Catholic Church, we encourage you to contact your parish six to twelve months before the wedding, preferably before setting the date. A priest or deacon will help you understand the preparation requirements, schedule the celebration, and begin the important conversations that help couples prepare for married life.
