Our faith calls us to live with generosity, service, and love, sharing Christ’s presence with those around us. Time and again, I see how the Holy Spirit is at work through you, drawing our diocesan family together. We are Together in the Spirit—united in faith and sent forth to make a difference in our communities.
This love comes alive through the Catholic Appeal, which supports numerous ministries that strengthen and sustain our Church. While all are vital, this year we highlight four key areas that are especially central to our life and mission together:
- Campus ministry, guiding young adults in their faith
- Hospital chaplains, bringing Christ's comfort to the sick and their families
- Priests, who shepherd communities across Maine
- Vocations, supporting seminarians and deacons in formation as they discern God's call
Your generosity makes these ministries possible. Each gift— no matter the size—helps sustain the people and programs that bring Christ’s presence into classrooms, hospital rooms, homes, and hearts. When we give Together in the Spirit, we build a Church that welcomes, heals, forms, and proclaims the hope of the Gospel.
I invite you to join me in supporting the 2026 Catholic Appeal. Your gift supports our diocesan family, nurtures faith in every generation, and allows the Church to continue serving all whom God calls us to reach.
With gratitude and prayerful blessing,
Most Reverend James T. Ruggieri
Bishop of Portland
