At the Diocese of Portland, we believe caring for our employees is essential to fulfilling our mission. The Office of Human Resources coordinates a comprehensive, values-driven benefits program designed to support the health, financial security, and long-term well-being of our employees. Our benefits reflect a deep respect for the people who serve the Church and the communities we support.
Lay employees have access to a full suite of medical, dental, and vision benefits administered through Reta Trust, a Catholic healthcare trust serving faith-based organizations nationwide. Medical coverage is provided through Blue Cross Blue Shield of California, with three plan options available. Prescription drug coverage is administered by CVS Caremark. Dental coverage is offered through Delta Dental of California, and vision coverage is provided through VSP Vision Care.
Health benefits are offered as bundled coverage. Employees who enroll in medical coverage are automatically enrolled in dental and vision benefits. Stand-alone coverage is not available. The cost of employee and dependent coverage is shared by the employer and employee to help ensure affordability.
Employees enrolled in the medical plan are also eligible to participate in the voluntary Reta Trust Wellvolution wellness program. This program offers a wide range of tools and resources that empower employees to personalize their wellness journey and focus on the areas of health that matter most to them.
To provide peace of mind and long-term financial protection, the Diocese fully covers the cost of employee life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment coverage, and long-term disability insurance. These benefits are administered by New York Life.
A 403(b) Retirement Plan, similar to a 401(k) plan, is available to all employees on the diocesan payroll and is administered by Corebridge Financial. The plan is funded through employee payroll deductions, with both pre-tax and Roth contribution options available.
The 401(a) Lay Defined Contribution Pension Plan is an employer-sponsored retirement plan designed to support long-term financial stability and is also administered by Empower. Employees hired prior to July 1, 2017, may be enrolled in a different pension plan. The Office of Employee Benefits is available to assist with questions regarding plan eligibility and enrollment.
The Office of Human Resources provides ongoing assistance to help employees understand and make the most of their benefits throughout their employment with the Diocese. We are excited to welcome new team members and are committed to supporting you from your first day forward.
