Property Management

The Office of Property Management directly manages all diocesan-owned properties and provides hands-on assistance to parishes, schools, cemeteries, senior housing projects and more to ensure facility projects are completed in a timely, efficient and professional manner. The office is responsible for both purchasing and selling property, as well as lease agreements. 

The director of property management works to ensure all maintenance, construction, renovation and demolition projects adhere to best practices and that pastors, parish staff, school administrators and others are supported by the diocese. The director is the primary liaison to architects, general contractors, engineers and tradespeople. 

A critical aspect of the work of the Office of Property Management includes managing the complexities of regulatory compliance such as those related to hazardous materials, accessibility, and life safety, and ensuring that legal matters and risk management issues are considered.

The director of property management represents the diocese with various professional organizations including the Conference for Catholic Facility Management (CCFM).

Founded in 1940, DICON is the Diocese of Portland's in-house restoration and construction company, which assists the diocese in the maintenance of its over 500 structures statewide. It is probably best known for its incredible and often breathtaking restoration efforts of some of New England's most beautiful and historic churches.

DICON not only restores these buildings but also restores them to withstand the test of time. Its skilled tradespeople specialize in work and materials that are unique to religious structures – copper, slate, intricate masonry, bell tower restoration, liturgical furniture and more.

Recent construction projects include the Newman Center/Our Lady of Wisdom Church in Orono, St. Faustina Church in Jackman and Holy Family Church in Greenville.
