The African community of the Prince of Peace parish welcomed all for a joyous Mass in four languages at Holy Family Church in Lewiston on Sunday, August 18. The Mass, concelebrated by Bishop James Ruggieri and Father Dominique Savio Habyarimana, SJ of the Jesuit community of Boston College, featured vibrant music and traditional African dance. The event marked the second anniversary celebration of the Chorale Notre Dame de la Paix, a choir performing hymns in Kirundi, French and Swahili.
The Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary commemorated the 125th anniversary of their arrival in Maine with a Mass celebrated on Saturday, August 17, by Bishop James Ruggieri at St. Margaret Church in Old Orchard Beach.
The Most Reverend Robert Deeley, bishop emeritus of Portland, participated in a rededication ceremony on Sunday, August 11 at Portland’s historic Western Cemetery in honor of the 25th anniversary of the installation of the Great Hunger Memorial. The memorial, originally dedicated by the Ancient Hibernian Order and blessed by Bishop Joseph Gerry on August 15, 1999, marks the final resting place of nearly 1,200 Irish Catholics.

This morning, the Holy See announced the appointment of Bishop Richard G. Henning, S.T.D. of the Diocese of Providence as the next Archbishop of Boston. Archbishop-elect Henning succeeds His Eminence Seán Patrick Cardinal O'Malley, OFM Cap.
